Southampton Boats by seasonaldragon1 Southampton Boats by seasonaldragon1
A piece done for my Summer project for University.
The project was to create images in response to an exhibition that we have seen over the Summer holidays.

I went to see two exhibitions - one at Exbury Gardens of botanical illustrations done by local artists, and one at the Southampton Gallery on Southampton's history with the sea. I decided to do my project on where I live.

First I focused on the loosest association with where I live, which is Southampton's history with the sea - therefore the boats.

For the project we were asked to work in the style and methods of another artist. I chose the artist Von - a contemporary illustrator and graphic designer.

Von's work process is to go and and take photographs, edit them on the computer, and then draw the final composition by hand in graphite in a realistic style.

He blends and overlays images, warping areas, adding geometric shapes and combining different elements of the images to create a whole new picture.

(Bleh, the pencilwork looks so streaky here, I hate how reflective graphite is in a scanner :/ *sigh* )
